Choosing a successor trustee for your
trust is an important decision. It should be someone, or a professional entity,
with certain legal and financial sophistication (and experience, if possible).
With the choosing, keep in mind that your initial selection can easily be
changed as soon as you access your Client Console. Indeed, you may make changes
as to your choice of a successor trustee(s) many times over the course of
several years; it happens a lot. With the MLCP platform, changes can easily be
made with a few keyboard entries and a button click.
We use "default" corporate trustee selections, which are very often the best
choice. And you can change the corporate trustee name, as well, by simply
editing the entry fields and submitting the page. If you decide on a natural
person (such as your son or daughter) to appoint as your successor trustee,
simply click the "Select a Natural Person..." radio button and enter the name(s)
and relationship(s). The corporate trustee will still be listed in your trust
document but only as an alternate successor trustee to serve if your first and
second appointees decline the appointment when the time comes to serve.
